This week we will venture into our next Unit- The Legacy of Anne Frank. Students will learn about the impact Anne Frank has had on the world ever since she wrote her diary as she hid from the NAZIs during WWII. We will explore how putting a personal/human voice to events in history give them more depth and significance. We will also be starting to read an amazing true story called Unbroken. This follows the epic stories that make up the life of Louis Zamperini. As we read the young reader's edition together, students will see history come alive through dynamic storytelling, personal stories, and the written word.
We are wrapping up the War of 1812 and getting into the "Era of Good Feelings". Students will explore the ideas of different political figures as they work to shape our young nation.
This week we will begin the process of creating a website to share the information we have gathered in our research regarding our Civic project. We are going to be deciding on what kind of service project we would like to be a part of to impact positive change with regard to the issue each class is focusing on (8A-Childhood Trauma, 8B-Domestic Violence)
****There is still some room if you are interested in participating in the AP Bootcamp on Saturday. Here is the message from Mr. Mireles:
We ordered enough pizza for 75 students and we are at about 65 so feel free to let any others know they can still join. If they can sign up using the link (bit.ly/APrsvp) that would be great so my admin can see the final numbers as well. I'm attaching a flyer about our new AP pathway as well if you'd like to push it out. We have our pathway night on Wednesday at 6pm if any parents would like more information.
US History Powerpoints-
Just in case you missed something. Remember, we focus on taking notes on the most significant information using Cornell note taking strategies.
-Friday we finished our Horror Unit Performance Task- Literary Analysis. Students submitted their Brainstorm, Plan, Rough Draft with Peer Review and Revisions, and Final Draft.
While June seems lightyears away, it will be here before you know it! Keep working hard. We will be holding a meeting soon to discuss some of the end of the year activities and what support we need from parent volunteers. Mr. Harrison and I will let you know more details about this meeting.
